The dreamer
The dreamer
I have always been a perfectionist
Little wonder that I have been waiting for the perfect guy
“He doesn't exist”, they said
“You are dreaming” their voices echoed
I almost believed them
But then, you came into my life
You were just like a star that came from the heavens
You shone in all the right places
You whispered just the words I wanted to hear
When you spoke, I was taken to another galaxy
And your touch rudely awakened every cell in my body
You were my dream come true
You had the perfect features
Chiseled face, athletic body and I cant leave out the beard
Oh the beard
I could write a paragraph on it
“In their faces”, I thought
My angel was sent from above
Now as we lie side by side watching the sun slowly set beyond the horizon
I feel content, because I have finally found the one
I smile as I watch you lean in
And slowly whisper my name
“Jane...”
I can't make out the rest of the sentence
So, I ask for a repeat
I'm certain they are words of endearment that will keep my blushing from ear to ear
“Jane wake up,” you say
I'm confused. “I don't understand”, I respond
And suddenly I feel a resounding slap
Closely followed by my mother's angry rant
“What do you not understand?”, she screams
“It's 12pm and you are still sleeping and smiling”
She thrusts the dishwashing liquid into my hands
The hands you once held
“Go do the dishes!” she says
“Mr. Mike is coming"
I don't want to believe them
But maybe I'm just a dreamer after all.
